Happy Helpers for the Homeless
In December 2000, one of our Sunday School students asked if the church would help her feed the homeless in Montgomery County. She was inspired by another youth who was feeding the homeless in the city of Baltimore and asked if we would help her feed the homeless in our community. Since February 2001, we have been making bagged lunches once a month for a men’s shelter in Rockville. A few times a year, when the kids were younger, we also arranged to serve meals at the shelter, so our students could meet some of the individuals served by the shelter. When most of the kids graduated from our Sunday School program, the two remaining students proposed inviting the church to help make the lunches, and the program continued. When those two went off to college, church members continued to meet for fellowship and service. We also started inviting local students to join us and earn Montgomery County Student Service Learning (SSL) hours as we made bagged lunches together.

If you’d like to join us, we continue to meet once a month to make lunches for the same shelter we have been serving all these years.
