School of Christian Living
The School of Christian Living at Dayspring offers an opportunity to explore the Christian faith and our life in community. Gordon Cosby, co-founder of The Church of the Saviour with his wife Mary Cosby, noted, “Every local church needs to be a seminary to train people for radical faith.” The radical nature of Christian community demands our continuing conversion to total commitment to Christ’s way for our life.
The School provides a context to know each other more deeply, engage in prayer together, and grapple with course content, expecting that God’s Spirit will be at work in us. The historical basic courses for the School were: Old Testament, New Testament, Christian doctrine, Christian growth, ethics, and community.

When the Church of the Saviour was one larger church instead of several small congregations, it could offer the standard courses frequently gearing them primarily to people newer to the Church, and also offer a School of Christian Growth with additional classes geared to those who already had attended the basic courses. As a much smaller congregation that often does not have many newer people at any given time, we have merged these functions into one School of Christian Living with the courses less standardized.
Because commitment is key to the full School experience, participants are asked to attend all sessions except when ill; to pray for each other; and to complete homework assignments of reading and reflections. Sharing a meal prior to each class is an important part of the course. Simple meals are prepared by participants on a rotating basis.
Fall and spring courses meet on Thursdays for several weeks, most commonly six. Classes begin with supper at 6:30 PM. While being present in person provides the fullest experience, we usually provide a Zoom option for participants at a distance and those who might have particular sessions they are unable to attend in person.
